Society Activities during the Covid-19 crisis

We are very sorry that we are unable to continue to offer our talks programme for the time being. We have the possibility of re-scheduling the talk by Fiona Davison on The Hidden Horticulturists in October and that by Tracey Logan on The Great West Road in November if meetings become possible again in the autumn.

Meanwhile, work is in progress on compiling and designing the 2020 issue of the Brentford & Chiswick Local History Journal. Providing we can get it printed this will be sent to all paid up members in May. Copies will also be available on the Book Shop page (see menu bar above), along with our other publications.

 

POSTPONEMENT OF LOCAL HISTORY CONFERENCE

This year’s one-day Conference, on the theme of Celebrations & Commemorations, was to have been held on 21 March. In discussion with the University of West London where it was to have taken place, the consortium of local societies behind this event (of which B&CLHS is one) has agreed to postpone the Conference, probably until the autumn.

The consortium is very sorry to have to disappoint potential participants. Given the unpredictable rate of the spread of the Corona Virus, and in line with a number of other conference organisers, we feel that it would be irresponsible to go ahead and risk infecting the local history community in South and West London.

Tickets will still be valid for the rescheduled event and should be retained. Every effort will be made to let ticket-holders know the future arrangements when they have been agreed. Those who bought their tickets from one of the sponsoring societies should keep in touch with them regarding the plans for the re-scheduled event.  Those who bought tickets by post will be contacted by the consortium’s treasurer in the near future.

The sponsoring societies look forward to welcoming our many supporters once again later in 2020.
