Another fascinating Journal sharing recent research into the history of our area.
This year’s authors have contributed important articles about local people from the past: the life and work of a poet who lived on Chiswick Mall, and of a Bedford Park artist featured in the handsome cover design. There is a poignant account of Chiswick people who died in the two World Wars, the outcome of a project at St Nicholas Church initiated during the Covid period. We celebrate the very pleasing acquisition of Neil Chippendale’s personal collection of historical items from Brentford for the Local Studies collection. A short piece reveals the name of the baker of the famous Brentford Rolls in the 1790s (and the recipe). And an array of architects, contractors and businessmen who gave us the art deco architecture of the Great West Road is presented in James Marshall’s follow-up to his best-selling Centenary History.
