This richly illustrated book represents the culmination of several decades of work by the author on the landscape around Chiswick House. Since 1982 David Jacques has been involved in detailed surveys of the landscape and planting, the development of management plans, support for the drafting of a bid for substantial lottery funding and some years’ service as a trustee. His combination of expertise and research has made possible a full telling of the story of this place from Lord Burlington’s interventions in the early 18th century to the present day. His style is very readable while the text is fully annotated with details of the wide range of sources he has used.
